I think '50 Shades of Grey' helped some folks realize kink is ok, maybe even fun ( although personally, I hate the silly book...). But it got people talking and that's a good thing.
But more than that, it's the internet. Without that, I wouldn't even have known I could purchase a chastity belt....
Plus the Chinese belts are cheap enough that people are willing to give it a go.

Difficult to give a number, since it is now mass manufactured chastity belts in China. If you look at all the pages that sell, then it must be sold 1000's chastity belts every month. Now it will not all be used, but many are curious.

It sold far more belts for men.
I can imagine it is 75% male and only 25% of women who use chastity belts. One reason that it is easier for men to buy a chastity cage, while it requires more precision-fit things to protect a woman.
